Lounge Interior Mensa Pädagogische Hochschule Zürich

The PHZH cafeteria is in daily use by many students, lecturers and staff.

And this not only for meals, but also as a meeting place, workspace and discussion room.

External guests like to rent the lounge as an event space and make use of the catering provided by the canteen's operator, the Zürcher Frauenverein.

Susanne Fritz Architekten was commissioned by the University of Teacher Education and the Zurich Women's Association to tailor the interior to these multiple uses.

The large suspended lights emphasise the two storeys and scale down the ceiling height.

The wall design also serves to optimise the acoustics. A resistant coating of the walls with a new colour concept is combined with the graphic arrangement of the acoustic panels. The choice of furniture was designed for high resilience, yet offers a high degree of comfort. The upholstery of the furniture creates a homely atmosphere with a high quality of stay. To take management and economy into account, the choice of upholstery and fabrics was made with high abrasion resistance and an environmentally friendly impregnation.
