Rohner Flagship Store

In 1930 Jacob Rohner established a sock factory in Balgach, Switzerland. With the acquisition of circular knitting machines, which at the time was a new invention, it succeeded in producing stockings and socks of the highest quality. That has not changed until today: Rohner socks are still made in Europe from high quality raw materials, but production was moved to Portugal. The entire building complex had to be put to new use and was extended and renovated by Susanne Fritz Architekten. The upper floors of the production building have been converted into loft apartments with spacious terraces and a roof garden. A new warehouse, flagship store and new office space were built on the ground floor. The brand identity of the traditional company was modernized and given a new graphic and architectural face. The new corporate architecture is determined by natural materials, just as the company's products are made of natural raw materials. The simple and restrained coloring of the material is behind the product and directs the eye to the partly colorful socks. The shop windows were used as a double-sided display, oriented both inwards and outwards. The individualized shop fittings were coordinated with standardized systems and thus brought into harmony with a unique identity and efficient management of sales. Despite the lower density of the merchandise racks, the turnover per square meter could thus be increased.
